Having lunch with Grade 12 Mentors

We went to Hugo’s restaurant to eat french food on twenty-first of December with grade 12 mentors. His restaurant nears Qingliang Mountain.

We choose his restaurant because Hugo is foreign person, we can learn something about his country and talk with him about it. It improves our friendship. In addition, it belongs to Hugo’s parent, the price is cheap. The style of Hugo’s restaurant is Chinese traditional, because it locates in China. It is suitable for Chinese people to eat. Some photographs of french country for Chinese people to enjoy French local customs and practices.

First, we ate the salad. I did not eat it because I hate it. Second, I ate the pumpkin soup, it was so sweet. Third, we ate the main food – the chicken. It was so sour. In the end, we ate the desserts. It was so sweet.

French people drink beers and talk with each other before eating food. So, glasses are on each table. The time of eating is so slow. When they eat one dish, and then the waiter will serve a next dish. French people also use knives and forks. They use different knives to eat different food. There is an electric light with dark light above the table. There 6 persons sitting beside one table. The environment is quiet and romantic. In contrast, Chinese people use chopsticks. There are more than 10 people sitting beside one table. Chinese people like noise and saying loud. So the environment is usually noisy.

I do not like french food because the taste is strange for me. Some dishes are so sweet and some are sour. However, I like the french environment. It is quiet. When we finished having lunch, we saw one Chinese family eating here. I would recommend other people to eat there because I think there are some people like quiet environment like me as well.

Go to an exhibition with Ms.Hadley's class

Our class went to the Nanjing University to visit the sculpture of Wu Weishan on the forth of December, in 2008. Wu Weishan is a professor of Nanjing University, the Director of the Institute of Sculpture Arts and so on. He won many rewards. His artwork is contemporary.

When we arrived in the exhibition of Nanjing University, we saw the big “cow” and there was empty inside. The exhibition is divided into the outside and inside. Firstly, we entered into the inside of exhibition. We saw the sculpture of a person. After 30 minutes, the student of Wu Weishan came here to explain Wu Weishan’s artworks. We knew Wu Weishan likes to sculpt the appearances of famous people and he usually catches their romantic charms. Secondly, we went outside to enjoy the rest of sculpture. The sculptures outside are different from inside. The sculpture outside includes the Chinese traditional workers and the famous people before.

I found most interesting artwork is called “a sleeping baby.” The artist is Wu Weishan. “A sleeping baby” was made in 1998. The shape of this artwork is ellipse. It is almost brown and a little green. It is also hard. It is made of bronze. The size of this artwork is 10cm×7cm×7cm. The subject of the artwork is a head of the sleeping baby. He opens his mouth, two eyes close, and there is a tuft of hair, it is likes a triangle. His head is slanting. His nose is small. The bottom of artwork is like a cylinder, but it is not regular, and it supports this artwork. His cheeks are chubby.

In addition, the artwork makes me feel peaceful and warm. The artwork makes me think about my childhood and my sleeping cousin. The artwork reminds me that my younger cousin is sleeping in the bedroom, and I go into that bedroom. He is sleeping in the bed, his head is slanting, he opens his mouth, there is some saliva flowing out of his mouth, sometimes he say something. The artwork related to this baby’s childhood because childhood is the best age. Children do not worry about anything; it is just like this sleeping baby, he sleeps peacefully and comfortably. I think the artist’s intention is to show us the hopes of this baby’s family and let us know cherish cheerful time.

I like this artwork because I can feel that the hopes of this baby’s family, they hope this baby will have a happy life. I think this artwork is also good and natural. It is the spirit of poem expression. The sleeping baby sleeps deeply and peacefully. He is lovely. The colour of this artwork is warm. The detail is specific, such as he opens his mouth. These make me feel this way. I think other people, especially the people who just have babies might appreciate this artwork, because they also have babies and wanted this babies have happy lives. The lovely sleeping baby himself also infects others strongly.

I like this trip. I think it made me excited. We can enjoy it and learn some new knowledge. It is valuable for us to have a chance to visit the exhibition.
